4.06.01 – (LAA) – NMB Cancelled Talks, Informational Picketing, Merger and Acquisition Committee Met, Improper Pay for EPT Attendees in Jan or Feb 2001, Northwet’s Mechanics Will Return to Negotiating Table

Negotiations Hotline – April 6, 2001

Hello, this is Thelma Dodson, DCA Flight Attendant and member of the APFA Negotiating Team, and this is the Negotiations hotline for Friday, April 6, 2001.

The National Mediation Board cancelled talks previously scheduled for this week, citing other emergencies that the Board is facing and the significant potential of service disruptions if disputes currently in the final stages of the Railway Labor Acts process are not resolved.

The Board was referring to the Northwest dispute, which is currently before a Presidential Emergency Board, the Comair dispute, where there is currently a pilot strike, and the Delta dispute, where the pilots are in the 30-day cooling off period. No new dates for our talks have yet been scheduled. The NMB is continuing to require the parties from publicly discussing substantive matters that were the subject of the last round of talks.

This hotline will be updated immediately upon receipt of notification from the NMB that negotiations have resumed.

Earlier this week, members of the Negotiating Team met with airline industry analysts on Wall Street. The investment firms visited included Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Goldman Sachs, ING Barings, Paine Webber, Buckingham Research Group and Arnhold & Bleichroeder. APFA negotiators exchanged valuable information with the key financial analysts, and presented the union=s perspective on the ongoing negotiations process. The analysts were eager to meet with organized labor, and expressed a keen desire to keep abreast of the mediation efforts between APFA and AA. Future meetings are scheduled with other airline financial analysts on Wall Street during the upcoming weeks.

Stay informed by visiting the apfa website at www.www.apfa.org, or by calling Phone Watch at 1-866-ASK-APFA. Thank you for calling the Negotiations Hotline.

Please stay on the line for more APFA and industry news.

This is Leslie Mayo , National Communications Coordinator, with APFA Negotiations and regular HotLine news for the week ending April 06, 2001.

Calling all Flight Attendants: We will be Informational Picketing on April 12th. This is a national event. Please wear your Union Pin and Wings only on your Uniform and join your co-workers in a show of unity. The Company already sees our desire to attain the contract we deserve but it’s not over until we have an agreement. If you’re on sit time, a layover or a day off, you can come out for an hour or two and show your solid stance against this Company’s stall tactics. Let AA know you’re tired of them dealing with everyone but their own employees. It’s time for them to step up to the plate and provide us with a REAL Industry Leading Contract. So far, we have 57 cities with leaders who have volunteered to organize this event. The Eastern Division will picket from11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Central Division from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the Western Division from 9:00 a.m. to noon. JFK and BOS will picket from 0700 to 1000.

The following base and co-terminal/satellite cities will be participating:

SEA, SFO, OAK, SJC, LAX, SNA, ONT, BUR, DFW, DAL, ORD, LGA, EWR, JFK, BOS, DCA, BWI, IAD, RDU, MIA, FLL and PBI.

The following commuter cities will also be participating in this picketing event:

ALB, APN (NAPLES), AUS, BDL, BHM, CLT, HOU, JAX, MCO, ORF, PHL, PVD, RSW (Ft. Myers), SWF (Stewart/Newburgh), TPA, ATL, BNA, CLE, CMH, CVG, ELP, IAH, LIT, MCI, MKE, MSP, MSY, SAT, STL, ABQ, COS, DEN, PHX, PSP, RNO, SAN, SLC AND SMF.

We look forward to seeing all of you next Thursday, April 12th.

The Merger and Acquisition Committee met both internally and with the Company this week. They are working with the Company on details outlined by our APFA Board of Directors’ Convention Resolution #4, dated March 17, 2001 addressing the subject of acquiring TWA Flight Attendants. Please be patient and understand that we are doing our best to provide you with information on this subject as it comes available. As soon as the details are finalized, we will notify you via the HotLine and the web site at www.www.apfa.org.

For those who attended EPTs in January or February of 2001, you were NOT paid properly per the APFA/AA Contract. APFA and AA discussed this issue and AA will provide all Domestic Flight Attendants with a total of 5 Ω hours of pay inclusive of compensation already rendered, and all International Flight Attendants with a total of 7 Ω hours of pay inclusive of compensation already rendered. The adjustments will be made by pay comp shortly.

Base Meetings for April are as follows: IDF at APFA Headquarters at 11:00 a.m on Tuesday, April 10th. DFW at the local office at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11th, and Los Angeles also at the local office at noon, Wednesday the 11th. Chicago Domestics Reps will be in Ops on Wednesday the 18th and DFW/IDF Reps will be in Ops, Terminal A at 10:00 a.m. on the 18th, and Terminal C, 10:00 a.m. on the 19th. Finally, SFO/SFO-I’s base meeting will be on April 25th at 10:00 a.m.

In Airline Labor Watch: Northwest’s Mechanics will return to the table to negotiate in DC this weekend with the NMB. Though the NMB has met with both sides continuously, this is the first meeting between both sides since President Bush appointed a Presidential Emergency Board to avert a potential strike. The Union is looking for three primary items: Pay, Backpay and Retirement. Sound familiar? Delta’s Pilots resume talks with their company on April 16th. Their 30-day cooling off period expires April 30th. AFA’s Flight Attendants for United have voted to approve a strike if United goes ahead with the USAirways merger without their endorsement. The Comair pilot strike is in week two. Comair has been forced to cancel nearly 6000 flights through the end of next week. That’s a large number considering the fact that they normally operate 815 flights a day.

That’s it for this week, be sure to wear only your Union Pin, Wings and Nametag on your uniform and don’t forget to wear your Union Pin at all Company training events. Thank you for calling the APFA HotLine.
