4.19.02 – (LAA) – NMB Determines that AA and TWA-LLC are a Single Transportation System for Representation Purposes, NBC and Accounting Firm of Whitley Penn Certify Results of Dues Referendum

This is Leslie Mayo, National Communications Coordinator, with an updated HotLine for Friday, April 19, 2002.

On March 19, the National Mediation Board (NMB) determined that American and TWA-LLC were a single transportation system for representation purposes under the Railway Labor Act. That determination has now led to APFA being certified as the bargaining representative for the TWA-LLC flight attendants.

APFA welcomes all TWA-LLC flight attendants!

Effective today, the terms and conditions of the AA-APFA collective bargaining agreement are fully applicable to the TWA-LLC flight attendants.

APFA Representatives have planned a series of meetings for TWA-LLC flight attendants based at STL and ISL. The purpose of these meetings is to familiarize TWA-LLC flight attendants with APFA and to provide them with information regarding our contract. Dates and times are as follows:

Wednesday
April 24
1500 – 1900
Friday
April 26
1000 – 1300
Saturday
April 27
1000 – 1300
Sunday
April 28
1000 – 1300

All meetings will be held in the JoAnn Wayne Room at St. Louis International Airport.

APFA membership materials will soon be mailed to all TWA-LLC flight attendants. Following that, elections will be conducted for Base Representatives for both the STL and ISL bases. Until then, TWA-LLC flight attendants are encouraged to call APFA Headquarters with questions. The phone number is 800-395-APFA. The APFA is open from 0830-1830 Central Time, Monday through Friday. Please continue to call this hotline and consult the web site at www.www.apfa.org for additional information.

This HotLine will be updated later this evening.

The National Ballot Committee and the accounting firm of Whitley Penn have certified the results of the dues referendum. There were 11,974 ballots counted. The referendum passed by a vote of 6,209 – yes and 5,763 – no, and two ballots were blank. The dues increase will begin July 1 and a total of three dollars of the monthly dues will be placed in a negotiations savings account for future contract negotiations. A breakdown of the vote will be posted on the APFA website shortly and will be available in Skyword, Issue 4.

As previously reported, APFA is aggressively pursuing the collection of all past dues. The names of those flight attendants in dues arrears will be published in Skyword Volume 5, Issue 4, on the website and on Base Bulletin Boards. Please contact the APFA Dues Department, ext. 8151 to make arrangements to become dues current.

An FYI to all JFK Flight Attendants who have proffered AIFS – you will no longer be required to serve the three-month contractual lock in.

We would like to thank those of you who took the time to fill out the 777 Staffing Survey and/or responded to telephone interviews from APFA Representatives. The Presidential Arbitration for 777 Staffing will be held in May. More details will be on next week’s HotLine.

On Wednesday, AMR Corp. reported a first quarter loss of $575 million dollars or $3.71 per share. This compares to a $43 million dollar loss or 28 cents per share for the same quarter last year. Jane Allen reported earlier this week at a “Town Hall Meeting” that AMR expects to report a loss for the remaining three quarters of 2002, however, she anticipates that we may see a profit as soon as the 1st quarter of 2003.

Thank you for calling the APFA HotLine. This HotLine will be updated on Friday, April 26, 2002.
