New York City, NY(April 20, 2012) – The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), the union representing the 17,000 flight attendants of American Airlines, will be informational picketing at airports across the nation on Monday, April 23, as well as gathering for a joint demonstration in New York City outside the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District in Manhattan with members of the Transport Workers Union (TWU, AFL-CIO).

“On Monday, April 23rd, American Airlines makes its case to the bankruptcy court to throw out over half a century of collective bargaining agreements covering 55,000 employees. The demands management has made regarding our contracts, salaries, and benefits are at best unreasonable and in many cases impossible. Worse, they have unconditionally rejected each of our offers to mitigate job losses while providing long-term financial stability for this Company,” said APFA President Laura Glading.

The rally begins at 9:00 a.m. with remarks from APFA President Laura Glading, TWU International President James C. Little in Battery Park. The demonstrators will proceed to the courthouse for informational picketing until 11:30 a.m.

###

American Airlines filed for bankruptcy on November 29, 2011, despite successfully extracting 1.4 billion annually in voluntary concessions from its labor groups in 2003. Management has not realized a profit throughout that period. Meanwhile, they have rewarded themselves with hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses every year since 2006. This protest is about justice for American workers.
