Update on APFA’s Independent Testing of the Uniform – LAA/LUS

APFA has received the initial results of the independent testing being conducted on the new uniform. Although the results do not indicate quantities of substances that are outside accepted limits under Oeko-Tex Standard 100 requirements for certification of textile products, a detectable amount of the following substances/chemicals were indicated in the report:

• Pentachlorophenol
• Tetrachloriphenols
• Trichlorophenols
• Free and partially releasable formaldehyde

Based on these findings, we have requested additional skin compatibility and sensitivity tests offered by the independent lab in order to attempt to determine if these substances could be causing the symptoms and reactions being reported by an increasing number of our members.

Also, along with the random samplings already submitted, we have sent additional uniform components for further testing that are confirmed to have been worn by Flight Attendants who experienced a reaction. We will also be submitting components of the non-wool uniform alternative since there have been reported reactions to these as well.

We will continue to invest the resources necessary to get to the bottom of this and we fully expect the Company and Twin Hill to do the same. If you experience a reaction to the new uniform or are uncomfortable wearing it, please follow the Uniform Reaction Guidelines included on the Uniform Reaction Report Form located on the APFA website.

Core Aircraft Training in November & December – LAA

We have received inquiries regarding Core Aircraft Training during the months of November and December. Traditionally, the Company has refrained from drafting during the month of December due to the limited number of classes available, as well as to mitigate the inconvenience of being drafted in a holiday month.

After consulting with APFA, the Company has decided to extend this draft exception to November as well, since enough volunteers were received for the month. The December bidsheet will still have classes posted for those who wish to volunteer, however, no training drafts will take place for the months of November or December, 2016.

Core Aircraft Training will continue into 2017. If there are not enough volunteers in a given month, drafting will recommence next year in reverse order of seniority for those who are legal and available at the base. To avoid being drafted, please consider proffering if your seniority is in the range that could be drafted.
