3.16.18 – April Bidsheet Questions

Hello DFW,

We have received a few questions about the pairing of the NRT flights in the April Bidsheet. When AA builds the pairing, they are no longer built manually. AA relies on the sequence “optimizer”  software to build the sequences for all solutions, including wide body International sequences.

In this case, the cost is equal regardless of how NRT flights are paired. AA has been working with the software vendor for a couple of months on a new rule that allows AA to specify flight pairs that we prefer be paired together in sequences, all other costs being equal.

AA believes this “preferred flight pair” rule will reduce the risk of this happening again.
APFA has asked AA to switch the pairings for April. AA stated they cannot change the pairing for April since the sequence values would change as the block times of flight 60 and 176 are different by fifteen minutes. This could also make bid selections illegal, which would require moving sequences among bid selections.

Every NRT sequence, except for the fly thru sequences that originate the last two days of the month, would have to be modified to remove the return flights and would fail continuity. Only then could the other return flights be added back to the 580 sequences. The fly thru sequences at the end of April would then have to be modified with replacement sequences as part of the May productions.

We have been assured by AA this will not happen again.
