Welcome to PHX
For those of you who transferred to PHX, WELCOME! For up to date information, questions and answers, visit our Facebook page AA PHX Flight Attendants.
Bereavement Notice
On Thanksgiving Day, we lost a bright smile from our base. Sande Simon passed, and left our base to fly higher. She will be missed, and her memories will be shared by all who loved and adored her. Till we meet again!
How to contact your PHX Reps
Do not rely on Facebook or instant messenger to get a hold of us. Our local union office phone number is 480-966-1231. Please leave a voicemail under the correct prompt, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible, time permitting. Thanks!
Most of us have been here long enough to have been through two rounds of contract negotiations with this company (AWA/LUS and LUS/LAA) and we know that they have a playbook they pull out every single time! They start pitting FA against FA whether it is base vs base, Jr. vs Sr., or they start violating long standing practices in our language, etc. They have insiders who tell them what is being written on FA pages, so they know the hot button issues. Please don’t play into their hands by attacking each other and your union leaders. We are all family and need to stick together and direct our anger and frustrations at the company and management! When push comes to shove, do we want to be standing or on the ground? STAND STRONG TOGETHER! (Mischel Babi)
RESERVE
Starting in January 91.5% of our base will be on the reserve rotation. Please familiarize yourselves with section 12 of the JCBA (contract). Know your legalities.
If you are projected to be on reserve and you are awarded a VLOA, this will fulfill your reserve obligation. Please refer to JCBA section 12A4a for further clarification.
Jury Duty
Please refer to JCBA section 3G for information regarding your jury duty in accordance with bidding timelines and summons dates.
Pay
January1, 2019 is our last raise of our current JCBA. You will also see an increase in per diem rates.
Deadhead
Refer to section 16HA. Please remember that you must notify crew schedule that you are not taking the deadhead as a lineholder. As a reserve, you must get crew schedule’s consent to not take the deadhead.
NODs (Notice of Disputes)
- 23 individual/group contraction violation NODs filed
- 6 base NODs filed
- 2 disciplinary NODs filed
The individual/group NODs include violations of 10.J Rescheduling; 10K illegal through no fault; 12H reserve call out. 9.D.1b rejoining trip after sick day, crew scheduling error and volunteer pay.
- 13 contractual NODs have been settled in pre DRC (direct resolution conference) settlement talks with monetary compensation for the affected flight attendants. 8 are awaiting a DRC and 4 are pending settlement after information is received from scheduling.
- 2 base NODs have been settled with pre-DRC; 2 have been moved to the regional rep area and 2 are awaiting DRCs.
We have also represented over 160 FAs in disciplinary meetings and were able to resolve pay claims prior to filing NODs in over 30 instances.
Contract
There have been several contractual changes with the implementation of the JCBA on October 1st. One of the major changes is the language in the Reserve section (12) regarding call out time. In our previous contracts, we were expected to receive a call assigning us a sequence/pairing at least 2 hours prior to check in. Now, the wording in 12H1 states that “A reserve shall be required to report within two (2) hours from the time she/he is notified of a sequence by crew scheduling.” This means that it can be 2 hours till departure, the key wording is that we have up to 2 hours to report to the airport from the time we are given our pairing/sequence by scheduling.
There is also a question as to when the 2 hours begins. The company is saying it begins when they leave a voicemail for the FA.
Section 12N4 clearly states that daily assignments “occurring after 0200 HBT to a reserve for the same day will be made by POSITIVE contact.” If there is any miscommunication with the scheduler, do NOT argue with them. Simply state the time of the call and that you will be there within your 2 hours allotted. Thank them and hang up.
If there is a problem when you get to the airport, call us at 480-966-1231 ext. 0 and let us handle the situation. There is no “quick call” and do not worry about rushing. If you get there within two hours of the call, you are following the contract language and will be covered.
There have also been several questions as to the change in “return to base.” 10.J.7 At the time of rescheduling, the company shall make every effort to schedule such flight attendant/crew to arrive back in their crew base no later than the time she/he was originally scheduled to return. In no event will the flight attendant(s) be rescheduled beyond her/his originally scheduled return time unless the Company has unsuccessfully made every effort to provide Reserve coverage to continue the sequence from that point without causing a delay or cancellation.
The intent of this language is to ensure that flight attendants are not worked into a day off if they can be replaced by reserves. Should the delay occur in a base, any significant delay (usually 4 hours or more) the company should replace the flight attendants if there are reserves available. If you have questions regarding this section and its application, please call at 480-966-1231.
