New Base Presidents and Vice Presidents Training

Newly elected base Presidents and Vice Presidents will attend a 5 day training course at headquarters this week. Many topics including Safety, Health, IOD, Hotels, Contract, Scheduling, Government Affairs, Archives and Communications will be covered in the comprehensive training. Headquarters congratulates and thanks our newly elected leadership for “stepping up to the plate.”

Certification Process of Aircraft

Following the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 accident, Congress is planning several hearings to investigate the certification process of the aircraft and the relationship between Boeing and the FAA. The designated representative system, in which Boeing employees may change hats and become certification representatives for the FAA, will be under scrutiny as some feel this creates too cozy of a relationship between the two entities. Additionally, both Canada and the European Union have announced their plans to conduct an independent review of the Boeing aircraft. Presumably, this will keep the Boeing 737 MAX 8 on the ground for the foreseeable future.

Retirement Seminars DFW & PHX

Grievance Prep

This week the Grievance Review Committee held their monthly meeting at APFA Headquarters to review cases currently on the docket.

To date we’ve received 4,475 responses or 17% of the Flight Attendant population.

Complete the survey to help your base representatives have a better idea of your flying preferences. The data from the survey may help your representatives request specific flying for your base. Please encourage your fellow Flight Attendants to participate.

Fume Event?

Working under the existing structure within the Health, Injury on Duty, and Safety & Security Departments, we are here to assist, educate, and defend Flight Attendants who have been impacted by air quality events and/or uniform reactions. If you are involved in an air quality event, remember to follow the APFA Checklist, which is found on your yellow Fume Card. If you don’t already have a yellow fume card, please contact the APFA Membership Department at 817-540-0108 x8153 to have one mailed to you.

To limit exposure, immediately leave affected area (If at the gate and no passengers are on board – proceed immediately off the aircraft).
Immediately notify the cockpit
Describe the type of odor, location, possible source, and any symptoms you may be experiencing.
Notify Daily Operations
Seek medical treatment if necessary
Report injury on duty (IOD): 1-844-RPRT-IOD (1-844-777-8463)
File CERS (if applicable) and ASAP reports
