Thank You to Cathy Ryder and Leslie Dupilka

Penelope and I would like to thank former President Cathy Ryder and Vice President Leslie Dupilka for their service to the LGA base. Your hard work and dedication to our base has been greatly appreciated and we have very big shoes to fill.

New Hire Classes to New York

Beginning this month, LGA will receive 159 new members to our base. Class 19-01 will receive 105 and class 19-02, 54. Let’s welcome them and make them feel at home.

Cabin ASAP Reports

We have been asked by APFA leadership in DFW to stress the importance of filling out ASAP reports. These reports are a way to report not-intentional FAR violations, as well as general safety and security concerns. ASAP reports are non-punitive and provide the company and the FAA with valuable information that they can use to understand and improve what we can do to keep our passengers and ourselves safe while on an airplane.

You can find the ASAP app on your tablet as well as in the safety and security section of the  flight service website.

To get to the ASAP app on the tablet: from home page, click on  to SOTI Surf, and at the bottom of the screen is an A button for ASAPReport

When Do I Go Illegal?

International Reminders

Effective immediately, all automatic wake-up calls, normally received 1 hour prior to pick up, will NO longer be provided. This has been instituted to prevent violation of FAR 117 (Pilot Flight Time Limitations & Rest Requirements).

You (or the Purser) will have to request your wake-up call with the front desk as it will not longer be automatic. If you do not arrange your wake-up call, you will NOT receive one.

APFA encourages you to familiarize yourself with the requirements regarding liquids when departing the UK. Because American is one of the only airlines that does not require its crews to check their luggage, there have been difficulties with crewmembers passing through security with incorrect or improperly contained liquids. We are aware that like many things, security in LHR is inconsistent. However, if you are stopped with the wrong size liquids or too many liquids in your bag, do not argue with the authorities. Simply check your bag or dispose of the offending liquids without commentary to LHR security because, they do have the ability to bar you from entering the country, which creates a problem with American.

Communication

Penelope and I will strive to communicate with you in a timely manner, however getting information out to you via a base brief may not always be practical. In those instances we do ask the moderators of the NYC Base Facebook as well at the Club EWR at NYC Facebook page to post important information to you and it is always to their discretion whether they pass along that information.

We recognize that the NYC Base page and the Club EWR page is not endorsed by APFA, but with over 2.6K members collectively it is one of the most effective means of disseminating information to you. With that being said, it bears repeating that your New York APFA representatives will not respond to requests for assistance if those requests are posted via Facebook. Use the above posted email addresses to send us an email, using your personal email address as your American email account is monitored by corporate security. Feel free to call us as well if you need assistance. After hours, if you need immediate assistance we urge you to utilize Live Chat which is accessed on the apfa.org website.
