DFW Base Notice of Dispute (NOD) Update

As the DFW Base President, I filed a Base Notice of Dispute (NOD) over the inclusion of non-recurrent related training in our 2019-2020 CQ. I attended the Dispute Resolution Conference (DRC). The company maintains that there is no contractual violation and denied the Base Dispute and paying the additional $75.00 to all Flight Attendants, which is clearly stated in SEC.29.E.2., of the JCBA.
“A Flight Attendant shall receive seventy-five dollars ($75.00) pay for each day of non-recurrent classroom training.”
I disagreed and rejected the facilitator’s recommendation. This Base Dispute has now been escalated to the APFA National Vice-President’s Department. We will keep you posted on the Arbitration date.
On April 20, 2019, I filed another DFW Base Notice of Dispute. This dispute is over the company’s creation of a “new” form of Red Flag flying over the Easter weekend on April 20-21, 2019. We will keep you posted on the outcome of this NOD.

DFW Employee Bus / Escalator Update

DFW Base Council Representative (BCR) Bobby Bulham met with the DFW Airport Board Bus Committee.

A few notes from this month’s meeting below.

1. Repairs are ongoing for Term C escalators/elevators.  Estimated completion of all work, 2-3 weeks.  A proposal to temporarily move the two lower level Term C bus stops to one stop on the upper level at C17 was tabled because of traffic congestion and safety concerns.

2. Parking during vacation.  Although technically not a violation of rules, employees going on vacation and parking in employee lots are encouraged to drop family off at the terminal first, then go and park.  Also please park at either 6E (in South) or 1W (in North) during this time.  Do not park in 5ED or 5EE lots (both in South) due to high daily demand.

3. Car damage while parked. I revisited the topic of car damage to the Board to get guidance on procedures. Unfortunately, if your car is damaged, there is nothing DFW Airport or AA will do to compensate. Even if you witness another car/truck damaging your car and get a license plate, DPS will investigate but it’ll be your word against theirs.  You can still call DPS to file an incident report, but basically your only recourse is to call your insurance if damage is significant enough. It would be similar to parking at a mall and finding damage when you return to your car.

4. Bus kneeling. Buses can technically kneel at every stop, but drivers were told not to do it to save on wear and tear.  They will lower the bus if there’s no curb or if you request. We have had reports that some drivers have said the kneel function was “INOP”, but if that were the case, the bus should be taken out of service for repairs.
