9/11 Community Evening in New York

You are invited to the 9/11 Memorial Museum for their annual 9/11 Community Evening on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 4pm until 8pm. Similar to previous years, the 9/11 Memorial Museum will be reserved exclusively for:

  • 9/11 Rescue and Recovery Workers
  • 9/11 Survivors
  • 9/11 Family Members
  • Active and Retired Flight Crew Members
  • Family Members of Individuals who are Sick or who have Died from 9/11-related Illnesses
  • Active Duty First Responders
  • Active Duty Military and Veterans
  • 1993 World Trade Center Bombing Family Members
  • Lower Manhattan Residents and Business Owners

Tempe, AZ Healing Field® – 18th Anniversary of 9/11The Tempe Healing Field® pays tribute at the Tempe Beach Park from September 7th through 11th, 2019 from 6am to 8pm each day. Beginning Saturday, September 7th, volunteers will hammer nearly 3,000 pieces of rebar, position eight foot tall American Flags with a personal bio card on each flag, and most importantly honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.If you are interested in volunteering, contact event chair, Nick Bastian at 602-803-6425 or visit http://www.facebook.com/September11.HealingField.


JCBA Section 3.O. PAY DISCREPANCIES

1. When there is a shortage equivalent to two (2) hours of pay or less in a Flight Attendant’s paycheck, such amount shall be added to her/his next check once the matter is resolved.

2. When there is a shortage equivalent to more than two (2) hours of pay but not exceeding five (5) hours of pay, such amount shall be issued through a special check, if requested, and mailed to the Flight Attendant by U.S. Mail, within five (5) days following resolution of the matter.  Upon request, the Flight Attendant may make arrangements to pick up a payroll card at a crew base or a check at the Corporate payroll office.

3. When there is a shortage exceeding five (5) hours of pay in a Flight Attendant’s paycheck, and once such matter has been resolved, a special check or pay card will be issued if requested, and forwarded to the Flight Attendant by overnight mail, except where the shortage is due to the Flight Attendant’s negligence or mistake.  Upon request, the Flight Attendant may make arrangements to pick up a payroll card at a crew base or a check at the Corporate payroll office.

Drug Testing Collector or Breath Alcohol Technician Failure to Show within 45 Minutes

A Flight Attendant who reports as directed to the designated testing area for a random drug and/or alcohol test, and who has waited 45 minutes from the time of notification indicated on the notification form for a drug testing collector or Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) (who has not arrived at the designated testing area to perform the test), MUST call her/his Manager on Duty (MOD) along with the appropriate contact listed on the test notification form to advise them of the failure of the collector or BAT to show.

The Flight Attendant shall indicate on the notification form the date and time calls were made and the names of the persons with whom they spoke. The Flight Attendant shall provide a copy of the notification form to her/his Flight Service Manager (FSM) within five business days. You MUST fully comply with all required procedures to avoid being assumed to have refused the test, which are grounds for termination. Do not leave the testing site before being 100% sure you have fully complied with all required steps of this policy.

Update on the Boeing 737 MAX

The international task force examining the 737 MAX certification announced it would need more time to complete its review. The body was supposed to offer recommendations to the FAA last week. Meanwhile, tensions between Boeing and international regulators remain high.

American Airlines has extended cancellations for 737 MAX planes into early December but has not yet canceled flights during the holiday season. APFA is keeping a close watch on the re-certification of this aircraft to ensure that the process is thorough.

TTS Processing

Why didn’t I get my first pick-up request in TTS? The reason given was Will Exceed TTS Max, but I was awarded a lower ranked request for the same hours?

TTS processes requests in seniority order. In order to satisfy the more senior Flight Attendant, TTS will use trips in open time or balloted trips (one being traded or dropped from another Flight Attendant), regardless of where it is ranked on a ballot, to complete the more senior Flight Attendant’s transaction.

When TTS processed your ballot, it looked at the trips in the order these were ranked. Due to the lower ranked award which was used to satisfy the senior Flight Attendant’s request, your credit window was no longer sufficient to complete the first pick-up request on your ballot.

Retirement Seminars – Are You Ready?

The Retirement Department will be conducting the following seminars in September:

  • September 24th – LAX – 1100-1400  Meeting Room at LAX Operations
  • September 25th – SFO – 1100-1400 Conference Room in the tunnel between terminal 2 and the parking garage.
  • October 10th – PHL – 1100-1400 Tour Room (inside security between Concourses C & D)

The Retirement seminars cover a wide range of topics including: Retiree Travel, 401(K), Pensions, COBRA, and Medicare.

Flight Attendant Certification/Airman Certificate

Beginning on Friday, Flight Attendants not in uniform will be required to present a third form of identification when proceeding through Known Crewmember (KCM). The FA may present as a third form of ID a valid Airmen’s Certificate, which is shown above.

Additional third forms of ID include:

  • A valid Flight Attendant Certificate of Proficiency
  • A second, non-expired, government issued ID (e.g., state-issued ID/license or Global Entry card)

Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, if you plan to use your state-issued ID or license to fly within the U.S., make sure it is REAL ID compliant.KCM Random Screening

Many of you have been asking about compliance with the 3-1-1 / LAG (liquids/aerosols/gels) restrictions in place with the TSA:

  • Flight Attendants not in uniform, who are selected to additional screening, must comply with the 3-1-1 rules that are in place at screening checkpoints. You will be asked to either check your baggage or dispose of liquids that exceed the limits set forth.
  • Flight Attendants in uniform, who are selected for additional screening, will proceed through the TSA screening checkpoints as a working crewmember.

The USP (Unpredictable Screening Procedures) are exactly that, unpredictable, and may vary from airport to airport. It is important to remember that you must comply with TSA Officer instructions.

Hurricane Dorian Updates

You have asked, and we are listening. Many of you have asked for updates on the status of Hurricane Dorian and for general resources. We are happy to let you know that we have a dedicated space on APFA.org that will host updates, resources, and other options available to Flight Attendants. You can find it on the main landing page of the APFA.org. Updates will be posted at 1100 and 1800 daily, until the storm no longer affects us.


Reserve Calling Out of Time (RSVCOT)

  • A Reserve can work up to 90 hours per month. Once you reach 85.01, a Reserve at her/his option can call Crew Scheduling to notify them that she/he is timed out for the month.
  • Any ETB hours will not count toward your RSVCOT
  • Once a Reserve reaches forty (40) hours of pay and credit in a month, any hours flown on Aggressive Reserve status above the forty (40) hours shall not be credited when determining if the Reserve has met or exceeded the monthly pay cap. Aggressive means bidding for trips in ROTD, after the initial ROTA run at 1500 Home Base Time the day before your Reserve day.
  • Should an FA choose not to call out before time of processing, Crew Scheduling will allow a Reserve to ROC or to accept the sequence and exceed the monthly maximum or at Crew Schedule’s discretion, split a sequence to allow a Reserve to reach the monthly maximum.
  • A Reserve may exceed 90.00 hours only one time through ROTA and unlimited times through ROTD. Any additional time wanted, will need to be picked up through the ETB.

 

I heard that all bases are being offered Voluntary Leaves of Absence (VLOAs) for the the month of October?

: 629 Flight Attendant VLOA’s are being offered system-wide for the month of October. You have until September 7th at Noon (CT) to submit an October 2019 VLOA ballot via Jetnet > Flight Service > Crew Resources > Manning > Voluntary Leave Information.
