Holiday Bidding

Holiday bidding is here! There will be bidding helpers in operations for both November and December bidding. Their schedules are:

October/November 10th 1300-2000
October/November 11th-14th 0600-2000
October/November 15th 0600-1300

JFK
October/November 10th 1300-2200
October/November 11th-14th 0600-2200
October/November 15th 0600-1300

Airbelts

Please refresh your knowledge on the use of Airbelts. The information can be found in your Inflight Manual. Go to General Policies and Procedures-Seatbelt Policy-Airbelts. If there are infants and children in the cabin, please ensure they meet the criteria for using the Airbelt or proper measures are taken to disable the Airbelt system.

No Means No

We have noticed an increase in reports of sexual misconduct. Please respect your coworkers and do not touch them or communicate with them in a sexually explicit way, without their verbal consent. We all deserve a safe and comfortable place to work. If you are unsure if your communication or behavior is not welcome, stop and ask. Please respect the answer given the first time.

Social Media

There has also been an increase in people being reported for using social media on the job. Put away your electronic devices while performing work duties. People are always watching, including passengers. Also, be careful what you post. American Airlines has strict social media policies, refresh your knowledge of them. The company is cracking down on certain issues. This is a common occurrence during negotiations. Protect yourself.

Fall BOD Meeting

The annual fall Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for October 15th and 16th. The meeting begins at 0800 and will be held at the Hurst Conference Center. All members in good standing are welcome to attend. Get active and find out what is happening firsthand!

Important Resources

ASAP reports are a great way to cover yourself! If you realize you have made a mistake that deals with safety on the airplane, file an ASAP report. This can protect you from discipline by the FAA. The link can be found on the Flight Service website. The reports go to the FAA and NASA, and are used to improve safety and security procedures on the aircraft. Keep in mind, it will not cover you in cases of gross negligence.

EAP and Professional Standards are two very important APFA resources. EAP is completely confidential and can assist in all kinds of situations, such as substance use/abuse, mental health issues, or it can even provide information for legal and other services.

Professional Standards is a program that can help with interpersonal issues regarding your coworkers. If you find yourself unable to resolve an issue with a fellow coworker, contact Professional Standards and they can help facilitate a solution. Remember, if you go to management, they will be obligated to start an investigation, and that will include all parties. Professional Standards is a good first step to keep an issue from snowballing into a larger problem.
