February Base Brief

Hello ORD!

Welcome to the February Base Brief. 

This is all pertinent information from the MAR Allocation call and hot topics at the Base.

A communication reminder… text, phone, email are the preferred ways to reach ORD Reps.  Don’t forget to include your employee number, and let us know if you have contacted other Reps or APFA HDQ.  This helps us prevent duplication of work.

Base Briefs are sent officially thru HDQ. Please encourage your fellow FA’s to sign up for all APFA communications.

Elections

Did you know we are the in middle of an election for APFA National Officers?  No candidate received the needed 50% +1 votes, so there will be a runoff election for all 4 Officer positions. Thank you to the roughly 800 who participated in the first round. But really ORD, we can do better than that considering we have approximately 2,000 eligible voters!

The candidates for National President participated in a debate on 2/4.  Take some time to watch the video, it is now available on the APFA website.  You are the APFA, make your voice heard!  Ballots will be mailed on FEB 7 and must be received by MAR 9, 1000CT.

Vacation Buyback

Annual vacation buyback is now closed and awarded.  VX buyback was up system-wide 121% year over year.   332 ORD FA’s sold back 8,091 days.

The primary round of Annual Vacation Bidding and Award is open and closes on MAR 4, 1200CT.   Flight Service is committed to assisting FA better understand the AVBA. ORD Specialists will be in K19 Ops from 0600-2200 the following days:

Call Highlights:

— Schedule change on 3/5, US daylight savings time 3/8

— Total block hours are slightly down from FEB, and down year over year.  So we will see trip distribution (1-day, 2-day, 3-day, 4-day) is similar to FEB

— The ODAN volume has increased.  The Company number is based on “starts per day”.

— We voiced our concern over the increase in total reserve.  Our number is up from FEB and up year-over-year.

— MSP satellite hours remained similar to FEB

Early Boarding
As a reminder, Sections 11.M and 14.F of the JCBA specifically state when Flight Attendants will be required to be on board the aircraft ready to receive passengers.   Document all violations.  The data will be used to support the Presidential Grievance.

When you have a workplace issue, please make your first call for assistance to the base Professional Standards Rep.  We believe the peer-to-peer approach to conflict resolution is highly effective.  It is also preferable to a solution that involves management which can compound the problem.
