APFA Celebrates Black History Month – “Did You Know?”

Did you know that President Barack Obama earned a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009? The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to President Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people.

President Obama offered hope for a better future. His diplomacy was founded in the concept that those who are to lead must do so on the basis of values and attitudes shared by the majority of those living in this world.

DOT CBD Notice Summary

The Department of Transportation recently issued a memo answering common questions about the use of CBD products for safety sensitive workers.  In this notice, workers were warned to use caution if they decide to consume CBD, as this could cause a DOT positive test. The labeling of many CBD products can be misleading and could contain higher levels of THC than what the label states.  CBD oil does not have a federal oversight when they are produced in laboratories and the FDA does not certify the levels of THC to ensure these labels are accurate at all.  The FDA has stated, “[i]t is currently illegal to market CBD by adding it to a food or labeling it as a dietary supplement” and issued warning letters to companies because their products contained more CBD than indicated on the product label.

The Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation, Part 40, does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason. Furthermore, CBD use is not a legitimate medical explanation for a laboratory-confirmed marijuana positive result.

Harassment & Discrimination in the Aviation Industry

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Cabin Crew sector is collecting data on harassment and discrimination in the aviation industry. The information is an important part of holding airlines accountable for the safety of their crew—to ensure that they are taking harassment and discrimination seriously and implementing policies and reporting processes that offer protections for workers.

Your input is valuable – take this 5-minute questionnaire

APFA is a participating member of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Cabin Crew sector, an international coalition of Flight Attendant Unions.

Initial Steps for Misawards in TTS/UBL, ETB & ROTA/ROTD

If you believe you have been misawarded in one of the Scheduling Systems (TTS/UBL, ETB, ROTA/D), contact FABRC and/or Crew Scheduling to ensure your claim is documented and time stamped. They will do preliminary research and may advise you to submit a Direct Connect. The Direct Connect Team will investigate the claim and determine if this is a valid misaward.

If you are experiencing technical issues with TTS/UBL, use the TTS Support Tab and document the problem.

After contacting FABRC/Crew Scheduling and submitting your Direct Connect, fill out a Scheduling System Issues Report. We thoroughly research each of these submissions and will advise you of our findings.  Our findings may be different than what Crew Scheduling, FABRC or the Direct Connect Team determines. If this is the case, we will assist to ensure proper pay protections are applied.

The Scheduling System Issues Reports are an avenue to document the issues you have with the Systems. These issues submitted in these reports have contributed to the enhancements we have seen since the Systems were first introduced. This information is also shared with the Negotiators, should changes to the contractual language be required.

Lands’ End Uniform Cutover – March 2nd

Members have expressed concern regarding the upcoming cut-over date as it relates to transitioning from the current uniform to the new Lands’ End Collection March 2nd, and the cleaning of our aircraft. APFA met with the Company to address these concerns.  The company informed us that the aircraft fleet would undergo an extensive clean prior to the March 2nd cut-over.

APFA remains confident in the new Lands’ End uniform garments as every piece in the collection has received the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certification — the highest garment certification available.
Anyone in the operation should wear the current uniform through March 1st. If flying a trip that crosses the hard cut-over date, bring your new Lands’ End uniform to begin wearing in the operation on March 2nd and beyond.

On March 2nd, only the Lands’ End uniform collection will be permitted. If you are beginning a red-eye flight the evening of March 1st (departing after 10 p.m. local time), you should wear your new Lands’ End uniform, as the majority of your time in the operation will be on March 2nd, particularly in the arrival airport on March 2nd.

If you’re on an On Duty All Night (ODAN) flight departing after 10 p.m. local time on March 1st, you should wear the new Lands’ End uniform. If your ODAN departs earlier than 10 p.m. local time, you should wear your current uniform.

If your uniform is back ordered and you have not received enough pieces of the Lands’ End uniform to wear March 2nd, contact the Uniform team immediately at [email protected].
