Why is the order different on the Assignment Sequence and Assignment Standby Daily Call Out Lists?

When ROTD is assigning a sequence, the order of assignment is from the Assignment Sequence Report.  ROTD uses the Assignment Standby Report to cover open standby shifts.

The “Assignment Sequence Report” groups Reserves in the following order:

1. RAP
2. Grouping
3. ASG “Clicks”
4. Inverse Seniority Order

A more senior Reserve with 0 ASG “clicks” will be called before a more junior Reserve with 1 ASG “click”.

The Assignment Standby Report groups in the following order:

1. RAP
2. Grouping
3. Standby “Clicks” *
4. Inverse Seniority Order

*ASG clicks are not considered when assigning Standby shifts. Reserves with 0 and 1 previous standby shift are separated on this list, however, combined in inverse seniority order for assignment purposes.

The reports are not easy to decipher. The number in the Callout column is a general number and does not take into consideration the days required for the assignment.  These reports can be filtered to assist you in determining when you may be assigned.

 

Assignment Sequence Report Example

Becky is # 1 in the call out order and first to be assigned a 1-day sequence.  She is senior to Marti, but she only has 3 previous assignment days (3 ASG clicks), while Marti has 4.  If the assignment is a 3-day sequence,  Kaitlyn, who is # 4 on the list, will be assigned first. Becky, Marti, and Hunter are not legal for a 3-day assignment.

You can filter these lists to show only those in your RAP and Group to see where you fall on the list for an assignment within your RAP and Group.  Below, the list is filtered to only show RAP A, 3-day GRP.

 

Assignment Standby Report Example

Reserves are listed by their previous standby assignments (SBY clicks) instead of ASG clicks, which is why the order on this list different. It is rare a 1-day standby shift would be open, so while Hunter is first to be assigned, neither he, Becky nor Marti can be assigned a multi-day standby shift. Amy, who is # 4 on the list, is the first who is legal for a standby shift requiring 2 or more days.

Reserves with 0 and 1 previous standby shift are separated on this list, however, combined in inverse seniority order for assignment purposes.

Kelli is # 13 in the callout order, but she is the most junior Reserve with less than 2 previous standby assignments, so she will be called first for a multi-day standby shift.

The Assignment Standby Report can also be filtered to give you a better picture of when you might be assigned. In this diagram, the report is filtered to show only RAP A, 3-day GRP and ascending SBY clicks. This allows you to see who is the most junior in each of the SBY click counts.
