PHX Base Brief

PHX Flight Attendants:

definition of phoenix

Last week, we were notified that there would be 7000-8000 Flight Attendants possibly furloughed, and a need to downsize PHX by an additional 800 Flight Attendants. This news hit all of us hard- we experienced disbelief, despair, and depression. The uncertainty of whether or not you will be furloughed, or if you will be forced out of your beloved PHX base is a helpless feeling.

We promise that we will not take these numbers lying down, and we will continue to fight for our family here in the great PHX base. We will remind Doug of the words he said to the Flight Attendants in this base when we had him come and face all of you over a year ago. He said he would not forget the PHX Flight Attendants and would do all he could for us.

I am being told from all departments that “all of this is fluid and can change depending on…”. We will continue to fight and hold onto HOPE. We will fight for all we are worth, and we will fight for our family here in this wonderful base.

Like the mythological creature, our base is named for The Phoenix: We may be forced into the fire, but WE WILL RISE FROM THE ASHES AND BE STRONGER AND BETTER EVERY TIME. So please do not despair, we will get through this together and come out stronger on the other side.

August Allocations

The scheduled flight hours for PHX remain steady, with just a slight decrease, from 45,662 to 45,444 flight hours. There are 404 of the 70-hour VLOAs being offered to PHX. This is almost twice as many offered last month. In August, we will be welcoming back 263 Flight Attendants returning from leaves, which accounts for the increase in VLOA’s.

Unfortunately, international travel has still been restricted by the CDC. The Company is still anticipating the resumption of PHX-LHR in October 2020.

This month, the LRD opened with a projection of 596 Lineholders and 197 Reserves. We expect the actual Reserve number will go down in PBS processing. If you toggle to ‘Prefer Lineholder’ in the LRD, but are projected to be on Reserve, it is always a good idea to bid both Lineholder PBS bids and days off in the Reserve tab.

The trip lengths remained stable this month. 32% of the pairings in our bid packet are 1-day trips (down 1% from last month), 2-day trips make up 51% (up 1% from last month), and 17% are 3-day trips.

We are happy to welcome KOA flying back to the bidsheet. As a reminder, Hawaii still has quarantine restrictions. Although crew members are exempt, it is not recommended to bring travel companions to Hawaii until the state lifts restrictions.

Once again, most of our sequences have RON time longer than the preceding duty day.
