December 2020 Allocations

Yesterday, we shared the devastating news that 468 of our most junior active Flight Attendants and currently furloughed Flight Attendants will be displaced from our PHX base effective January 31, 2021. Understandably, there are many questions that need to be answered. APFA will be conducting a recorded Virtual Town Hall to hopefully answer all your questions and concerns. The date of this Town Hall will be announced soon. In addition, the Company will be sending out a packet via mail to our displaced Flight Attendants.

Many of you have asked why PHX is the only base to receive displacements. The short answer is earlier this year it was announced that the SLT and RDU bases would be closed early next year. All these Flight Attendants are being displaced to other bases. In addition, it was announced that LAX, MIA and PHX would be expected to experience significant decreases. Specifically, 800 FA’s for LAX, 1000 FA’s for MIA and 800 FA’s for PHX. Due to the furlough process which occurred on October 1st, both the LAX and MIA met those required numbers. On the other hand, PHX did not meet the required number due to the high seniority of the base. Your PHX Base leadership, as well as National leadership, will continue to advocate for our base and will ensure that no question will go unanswered.

December 2020 Staffing vs. December 2019 Staffing

Remaining December Bidding Timelines

Hawaii Wide-Body Flying

For the December bid month, we are pleased to announce that both Honolulu (HNL) and Maui (OGG) sequences out of PHX will operate on the 777-200 and 787-800 aircraft.

HNL: For the December Bid Month PHX to HNL will operate on the Boeing 777-200 aircraft. (subject to equipment change)

OGG: From December 2-15, PHX to OGG will operate on the Boeing 787-800 aircraft. (subject to equipment change) Beginning December 16th, PHX to OGG will operate on the Boeing 777-200 aircraft. (subject to equipment change)

Illegal Mixing of Wide-Body and Narrow-Body Flying

For the December bid month, we noticed sequences containing a combination of wide-body and narrow-body flight segments.

Example for PHX:

In the example above, on Day 1 the crew works a 787 from PHX to DFW and a 737 from DFW-TUS. On Day 2, the crew works a 737 from TUS to DFW, and a 787 from DFW to LAX. On Day 3, the crew work a 737 from LAX to DFW and a 321 from DFW to PHX.

The main issue is the inconsistency presented with these type of sequences. On Day 1, the PHX-Base Flight Attendants could be positions 1 through 4 on the 787 from PHX to DFW. However, on Day 2, the PHX-Base Flight Attendants could be positions 5 through 8 on the 787 from DFW to LAX. (DFW-Based FA’s would be working positions 1 through 4).

This is unacceptable. We voiced our outrage to the Company emphasizing this type of sequence construction is unacceptable, and mainly a violation of our Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA) since the same position is not held throughout the sequence.

We will update you as we challenge the Company via a Grievance in this matter.

No VLOA’s for December

For the December bid month, Voluntary Leaves of Absence (VLOAs) were not offered to any base by the Company.

Quarterly Web-Based Training Reminder

On Sep. 28, 2020, the Company launched the fourth quarter combined Flight Service and Corporate web-based training program (WBT). This course is a required WBT lesson and must be completed by Nov. 30, 2020 at 2359 CT.

November “Well for Work”

As a reminder, all active Flight Attendants are required to a complete Well for Work in Comply365. It is a short-declaration acknowledging that you are aware of the symptoms of COVID-19 and you agree to do an individual health evaluation before reporting to work each day to determine if you are displaying any new, unusual or worsening symptoms of COVID-19.

You are required to complete and submit Well for Work by the end of the bid month.

If you are on leave, you are not required to submit a Well for Work self-declaration until you are back to active status. You do have to complete Well for Work if you are attending CQ.
