Allocations Information

January pairings are similar to Decembers with the exception of mixing wide-body and narrow-body equipment. Four-day trips continue to remain high, scheduled layovers with ten to eleven hours of (minimal) rest have actually increased as well as duty days scheduled twelve hours or greater. We strongly voiced our concern about long duty days and short layovers especially in January with the potential for inclement weather. Once again, it fell on deaf ears.

Many pairings have Flight Attendants passing through hubs instead of returning to base, as we have had in the past. This is due to the pull down in flying with crews following the aircraft flying pattern. The amount of synthetic time built into the pairings has also increased for January due to reduced flying and hubs not operating banks on certain days after the schedule change on the fifth. Sit/connect times have decreased slightly for January but are still much higher than in years past. We have advocated for reduced sit times, especially at hubs.

We will continue to provide feedback to the allocations department regarding current optimizer programming and adjustments that need to be implemented to provide a better quality of life than what we have experienced these past three months. DFW was allocated 176,089 pay hours for January an increase of 4,289 hours from December. Austin was allocated 1,014 pay hours an increase of 93 hours from December. This is a concern that we have brought up to the company, as more senior AUS commuters will be back on reserve in January.  We have asked to reduce Austin hours down for January. Block hours are down 47.0% year over year at DFW and 53.6% systemwide. The airline is flying about half its schedule compared to January 2020.
