Lineholder Sequence Pay Protection Exception for TLV & CLO – May-June 2021

For the May and June bid months, APFA has secured a Letter of Agreement to pay protect sequences affected by cancellations to Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV) and Cali, Colombia (CLO). Full trip sequence cancellations will be pay protected to the original sequence value at the time of the award, including applicable premiums, provided the affected Flight Attendant does the following:

  • Bids (Pick-Up only) all positions for all “like sequences” in an equal number of TTS runs for the duty periods lost. Requests do not have to be for the original days of cancelled sequence(s) and do not have to be consecutive, but the TTS runs must occur prior to the origination date of the cancelled trip.

 

Example 1

If a Flight Attendant lost a single CLO (NIPD) trip on the 20th (3 days/2 duty periods), the Flight Attendant would be required to bid for “like sequences” in two (2) TTS runs prior to the 19th.

Example 2

If a Flight Attendant lost two TLV (IPD) trips (each with 3 days/2 duty periods) and the cancelled trips were scheduled to originate on the 20th and 25th*, the affected Flight Attendant must bid for all “like sequences” in two (2) TTS runs prior to the 19th and the 24th (e.g., bid in TTS on the 8th and 12th). Both trips may be included in the same runs by using two (2) requests (8th and 12th), one request for each cancelled sequence (20th and 25th).

*If the 25th is the last trip of the month and it has been removed with the LS code, the Flight Attendant will be pay protected without obligation under Last Trip of the Month pay protection provided for in JCBA 10.L.



1. What is the definition of a “like sequence” for CLO?“Like sequences” for CLO include all NIPD sequences with a report time of at least one (1) hour before/after the cancelled CLO sequence report time and a release time of at least one (1) hour before/after the cancelled CLO sequence release time in each TTS run.

2. What is the definition of a “like sequence” for TLV?“Like sequences” for TLV include all IPD sequences with a report time of at least one (1) hour before/after the cancelled TLV sequence report time and a release time of at least one (1) hour before/after the cancelled TLV sequence release time in each TTS run.

3. If I am awarded a “like sequence” in TTS, do I need to submit a Direct Connect form?

Yes. You must submit a Direct Connect within five (5) calendar days of the TTS ballot/award and include the awarded sequence details and date of the cancelled sequence it applies to and Crew Compensation will add the applicable pay protection hours (the difference between the trip picked up for pay protection and the cancelled trip) as soon as practicable after the completion of the sequence picked up in TTS.

4. What if my TLV or CLO sequence cancels with less than two (2) TTS runs remaining prior to the affected sequence?You will be responsible for participating in any remaining TTS run prior to the originally scheduled sequence, if applicable, and also must ballot in UBL on the day prior to origination. You may remove your UBL ballot at 1500HBT the day prior to your originally scheduled sequence.

5. What happens if I ballot in TTS for the appropriate number of runs, but I do not receive a “like sequence”?You must submit a Direct Connect within five (5) calendar days of the TTS ballot and include the TTS/UBL date of the run, the run number, the date of the cancelled sequence being protected, and indicate on the form that no like sequences were available. Crew Compensation will add the applicable pay protection hours (the value of the originally awarded sequence) as soon as practicable.

6. May I “double dip” on duty periods for which I am receiving pay protection under this Letter of Agreement?

After pay protection is added, you may “double-dip” and pick up additional sequences in TTS that result in actual flying on day(s) pay protected by this agreement, and such TTS time, if flown, shall be paid in addition to any applicable pay protections provided in this Agreement.

Note: ETB trips picked up after May 23, 2021 on the same calendar days as a pay protected sequence will negate any pay protection for the originally scheduled trip.

7. What if I do not want pay protection for my canceled TLV or CLO sequence? What is my obligation?

You will have no obligation to make up the lost time.

8. Are ETB sequences originating on vacation days or picked up on Reserve days off protected by this Letter of Agreement?

No.

9. My TLV or CLO sequence canceled in early May, am I pay protected?Any cancelled TLV or CLO sequence originating between May 2, 2021 and May 23, 2021 and otherwise covered under this Letter of Agreement shall be pay protected with no obligation.

10. If my TLV sequence is removed with an ‘LS’ code (last sequence/ last series), do I have an obligation in order to receive pay protection?

No. JCBA Section 10.L pay protects the last sequence or last series of sequences with no obligation.
