PHL Employee Parking

Over the last few months, we have been struggling with the employee parking situation in PHL. The parking garages are full, and it is becoming increasingly more frustrating. The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) has made it very clear they will not be reopening the employee lots at this time. They seem to believe they can handle the volume of passenger parking and all employees who work at the airport parking in the garages.

It was reported they would be raising the rates in the parking garages to pre-COVID pricing, which should drive passengers to use third-party vendor parking offsite, such as Park-N-Fly, Colonial Airport Parking, Wally Park, etc. In theory, this would open more parking spaces in the garages. I do not know about you, but I have not seen that happening.

PHL Base Manager Beth Williams has been addressing this issue with the PPA almost weekly. She has sent out updates via mobile CCI on May 6th, May 14th, and May 16th. The PPA did change their initial plan due to the pushback from the workgroup’s leadership.

As of this writing, beginning June 1st, all airline employees that work in Terminal A-East, A-West, B, and C are required to park in the A-East/A-West garage. Airline employees that work in Terminals D, E, and F will be required to park in the E & F garage. If you have an oversized vehicle, you will continue to use the Terminal F garage. This is better than the original plan by PPA, which was to have all employees parking in the E & F garages. They will be reserving garages in Terminals B, C, and D for customers only. We have been advised that the PPA will be monitoring for compliance.

Is this acceptable?  Absolutely not.

We all enjoyed parking in the garage when there were parking spaces available. However, that is no longer the case. We should not be required to leave earlier than reasonable to report to work to circle the parking garage searching for parking. We should not be put under the additional stress of potentially getting a late report or a missed trip due to the employee parking situation. Should you find yourself in a situation where you cannot find a parking space and are dinged with a late report or a missed trip, please reach out to us immediately.

We are monitoring the situation working closely with the company and Flight Service to try to bring about a much better option for parking. This is not over, and we will continue to advocate for reasonable parking accommodations for our Flight Attendants.
