September 2021 Staffing and Allocations

September’s block hours will be 3.5% lower than August as the Company pulls down its fall schedule. Miami’s block hours are down 39.1% from pre-COVID levels in September of 2019, and the system is down 27.4% from that same period.

We can expect to see a significant drop in the number of Reserves needed for September. The plan is for 338 Reserves as compared to 496 in August. This change represents a 7% decrease. The Reserve percentage of 14.5% matches the historical data in September of 2019. Each month, I have argued that the inflated Reserve percentages this past year do not represent the historical data. It is refreshing to see that the 14.5% Reserve percentage for September matches the pre-COVID historical data in 2019. I will continue to push for this trend to continue.

On a less positive note, the sequence construction continues to be disappointing despite our suggestions and ideas. Our recommendations always fall on deaf ears. They continue to build non-productive multi-leg sequences that have resulted in unprecedented sick and fatigue levels. After reviewing the allocations for September, APFA collectively chose not to participate in this month’s monthly allocations call. I felt those three hours would be better spent being available to our base and writing this communication.

There will be no change to the IPD flying:

• Daily 787 turns to GYE and PAP.
• Daily 777 turns to DFW, JFK, and LAX.
• Daily 777-300 day flight to LAX with a 15-hour layover.
• Daily JFK 1/1 on a 777-300 which could be flown as a double-up.
