8.25.21 – APFA LGA Base Brief – August 25th, 2021

Wednesday, August 25, 2021

A lot has happened and changed this week. By our very nature, Flight Attendants gravitate anywhere there is a need, be it for compassion, assistance, or to perform simple acts of humanity. I say this having over two decades amongst the most diverse people that genuinely define resilience. It is an honor to participate in any cause that can touch even one life. Just by doing what we love to do: fly.

In the coming days, no one can determine how much we will play a role or how much we will participate in this effort as an airline. Still, I want to assure you of my uncompromising commitment to ensuring your safety and well-being.

As someone who started my career as a flight attendant flying military charters and traveling to countries around the world where my wildest dreams couldn’t take me, I am glad we have this opportunity. There is one new element that was not around when I started my career: social media. It is more potent than current and past generations will genuinely know, and at times like these, we must sacrifice our comfort. I am not a vlogger, but most of you who know me, know I enjoy sharing my passion for fitness and other subjects with you via several channels. It is a healthy part of our society now to want to share something we feel good about, especially when it is of a humanitarian cause. However, as professionals, we must honor the respect and dignity of serving those in need. When in doubt, I invite you to please reach out to us for guidance on what is appropriate and what is not for sharing on any social media site. The company has assured us that this is not about limiting our communication but about privacy, respect and security being paramount now more than ever.

As tempting as it is to share beautiful moments, please be mindful of posting any details or photos when it comes to this beautiful but delicate mission. I hesitated to share this with you, but a leader isn’t just one who fights. and as I have been told, torches things. A leader also protects, which is why I’m sharing this with you. On top of CRAF, we already face many challenges that continue to be a part of our everyday business, and the last thing we need are challenges of our own making.

Thank you for stepping up despite all of our struggles as labor. Your actions prove that we are an intricate part of connecting the world around the clock. I have never felt more fortunate or proud to support a group of people like I do each one of you.

Please fly & be safe.

In Solidarity,

Christian M. Santana
