All,

As Hurricane Ian approaches Florida, please make sure you take the precautionary steps to safeguard your home and family. Hurricanes can shift and intensify in open waters and can be a potential threat even if they are not forecasted to take a direct hit in your area.

If you are in an area at risk and need to prepare for the storm, Miami Flight Service will grant POs. You can contact your Attendance Manager if you need to be removed from your trip the following day. The email address is [email protected]. If you need an immediate removal you can contact the Crew Service Center at 786-591-2900. Press one, then one again to speak with the MOD.

We are approaching the end of the month which means most cancellations are contractually protected under JCBA Section 10.L. Last trip/series protection. The header in the left corner of your HI1 will highlight the trip/trips that are protected next to the word last. See below. If you see the word lock, then a cancellation has occurred and the trip/trips in that series have the protection locked in.

As a reminder do NOT pick up a trip from ETB over any CALENDAR day of a protected trip or you will lose the pay protection for the impacted trip. I would encourage you to monitor your trip closely in the event a cancellation occurs.

Any TMs received as a result of the storm will be reviewed by your Attendance Manager and should be recoded to a PO if storm-related. To determine who your Attendance Manager is:

1. Log on to the Flight Service Website.
2. Under your name, locate your FSMs group number, then click on the hyperlink ASFMs by base.
3. Scroll down to MIA, then locate the corresponding group number to see the Attendance Manager you are assigned to.

Hurricane LOAs are negotiated at the APFA National level since they have a global impact on several bases. Generally, those discussions occur after the storm passes and the impact is known. I have a BOD call today and have added this to the agenda. I will keep you updated.
