Are You Registered to Vote?
November 8th is around the corner!
Political signs and TV ads are everywhere, but are you prepared to participate in the upcoming election? Registering to vote only takes a minute. If you haven’t voted in a while or if you’ve moved recently, you will need to re-register to keep your registration up to date. It’s always worth double-checking your registration status. Don’t miss this window so that you cast your ballot next month!
Vote Early
Flight Attendants can ensure that our ballots are counted by taking the time to vote early. The very nature of our job, whether it is a scheduled layover or an unexpected delay, may prevent us from voting in-person on November 8th. Early voting is also a great way to avoid long lines on Election Day! Find out more about how to vote early in your state.
Election 2022
You have heard it before, but this election is important for working Americans. Workers across the country are frustrated, burnt out, and struggling. Support for labor unions is surging, and we have the potential to put power back in the hands of working people.
Let’s face it, corporations can outspend labor, and often they can get what they want in Washington. But we have the numbers, and workers can elect people who understand and care about the concerns that working Americans face. Therefore we want to make sure that APFA members are registered to vote, participate in early voting, and get their ballot counted by November 8th.
Elections Matter
The ballot you cast in November will affect all three branches of our federal government. The representatives you elect also appoint and confirm decisionmakers to other offices. The decisions made in Washington directly affect Flight Attendants, the aviation industry, and the ability for Labor Unions to protect workers across the country. All 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives are on the ballot, and a third of the U.S. Senate. Who are you sending back to Capitol Hill?
Every few years, Congress must pass a bill to refund the FAA. Next year, 2023, is the year. In this major aviation bill, there will be an opportunity to pass bills that help Flight Attendants. Let’s make sure that our next Congress is pro-Flight Attendant!
State and local candidates are also on your ballot. Issues such as unemployment insurance and accessibility to workers’ compensation are determined at the state level. These down-ballot races impact your communities. Look at who is on your ballot and see what they stand for before heading to the polls.
