National Heart Health Awareness Month

February is National Heart Health Awareness Month. American Heart Month raises awareness of the importance of a healthy heart and encourages healthy habits that help reduce the risk of heart disease. Just under half of all adults in America have hypertension (HBP)/high blood pressure. 1 in 10 adults in the United States has diabetes. Those with diabetes are twice as likely to develop a heart condition. More than 25 million people in the United States with asthma are also at a higher risk of a heart condition. These conditions affect us in every age group. We encourage everyone to stay healthy while managing any health conditions they may have.

Have you been diagnosed with diabetes, asthma, or hypertension/high blood pressure? Do you take medication(s) to manage it? If so, you can fill your prescription(s) for free through StayWell Rx.

StayWell Rx is a prescription discount program through CVS Caremark. You, your spouse, and dependents covered by American Airlines health insurance plans are eligible to participate in this program. Each time you pick up your prescription, you will get a 3-month supply for free if you choose a generic option. Brand-named medications will cost $30.

To Enroll in StayWell Rx:

  • Call Accolade at 833-346-3929 (833-FIND-WAY) and talk to a nurse/associate. They will ask you what medical conditions, prescriptions, and supplies you take. If you are enrolled in DFW ConnectedCare, contact DFW ConnectedCare Center at 800-784-5473 to speak to a healthcare coordinator or use the MyBSWHealth app.
  • The Accolade nurse associate will then enroll you to earn this discount for your eligible medications. (Accolade is a resource to help you contact all the programs and resources American Airlines offers us.)
  • You will pick up your prescriptions at a CVS pharmacy, Safeway, or have your medications mailed to you by CVS Caremark.
  • Once enrolled, you must call Accolade at 833-346-3929 (833-FIND-WAY) to re-enroll in each calendar year.

As Flight Attendants, we spend our entire career caring for others and can sometimes forget about ourselves. When managing our health, we must look for ways to save money without compromising our necessary care. It is vital to work with your primary care physician to receive the best treatment possible and urge your friends and loved ones to do the same.
