Are You Dues Current?

As we enter this critical phase in negotiations, it is imperative that all members are in good standing. You must be an active member in good standing to participate in Union activities such as:

  • Base Meetings
  • Board of Directors and Executive Committee Meetings
  • Roadshows (informal information meetings)
  • Voting (national and local elections, constitutional changes, strike votes, finalized tentative agreements)
  • Polling
  • Access the Members Only section of the APFA website
  • Hold an elected or appointed position

If you took any Leave of Absence at any time in your career, you are most likely delinquent on your dues. American Airlines is not permitted to deduct dues for arrears amounts from your paycheck. If you are in arrears for any amount, you must pay APFA directly via the APFA website.

If you are currently in dues arrears, you will receive an “alert” letter via certified mail or hand delivery (APFA Policy Manual – Section 2.A.3.) with your arrears balance and how it will impact your employment with American Airlines.

If you are in a dues arrears status and receive an alert letter, you will have 30 days from the date of the letter to settle your balance.

If you are currently on a leave, you will continue to be billed each month for dues and/or fees accrued while on that leave. We encourage you to log into the website and leave a card or bank account on file and set up recurring payments so that your dues/fees are automatically taken while on leave.

Immediately upon return from a leave of absence, if you have generated a balance while on leave, you have 60 days to make a payment or request a payment plan or you will receive an alert letter.

How do I check to see if I owe a balance for dues?

Payments can be made online by visiting APFA.org and clicking on ‘Account/Log In’ in the upper right-hand corner:

You must log into the APFA website to see your balance.

To log in, select ‘Log In‘ from the right corner:

Log in using your employee number and password (if you don’t remember your password or you have not yet set one, select ‘Forgot Password‘). We must have a valid personal email address on file (AA Email is not allowed) for your account to be active. If you do not have an email address on file or if the email address is incorrect, please email [email protected].

Once logged in you will be taken back to the last page you were on. Select ‘My Account‘ in the top right corner:

Your balance and arrears balance will be shown on the right, below the language selection drop-down field:

You may also view your balance on the ‘My Profile’ section.

To view the My Profile section, select ‘My Profile from the home page drop down:

You can see your balance, Member Type, Balances, and Standing on your profile. You may also update your information if your mailing address is incorrect.

How do I make a payment?

To make a payment, select ‘Make a Payment‘ from the home page menu:

You may pay your balance in full or select a different amount. You may pay via credit/debit card or using your bank account:

Why aren’t dues being taken out of my paycheck?

In most cases, APFA does not have a signed dues check-off authorization form (JCBA Section 35.L) on file. Therefore, dues are not allowed to be deducted from your paycheck. To activate or re-activate payroll deduction, you must submit a Membership Application & Dues Check-Off Authorization form online.

Why do I continue to receive a bill/statement in the mail if dues are being deducted from my paycheck?

Although your current dues are being deducted from your paycheck, you are receiving a bill/statement for prior dues that APFA did not receive from your prior paycheck(s).

Can I pay my past dues via payroll deduction?

No. At this time, back dues may not be paid via payroll deduction. Therefore, payments must be made via the APFA website or by calling the dues department. The ability to pay past dues via payroll deduction is being discussed in negotiations.

Please make sure that APFA has your most updated contact information. Click ‘Update Information‘ to update your information in ‘My Account‘.

Thank you for taking the time to make sure you are dues current. APFA’s Dues and Membership Department is here to assist you in any way possible. Be sure to visit the APFA Dues Page to find more details on your dues obligation.
