National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths. It is also the highest common cancer in both men and women. Many people with colon cancer experience no symptoms in the early stages. The good news is this type of cancer, when caught early, has a remarkably high survival rate. Colorectal cancer is preventable when pre-cancerous polyps are found and removed through a colonoscopy.

Regular screening every ten years, beginning at age 45, is the key to preventing colorectal cancer and finding it early. For those with an increased risk of colorectal cancer, your doctor may recommend getting screened more often, such as every five years. This procedure is covered 100% by our health insurance. If you have not been screened or have postponed your screening and have any questions, please call your physician.
