6.04.23 – APFA MIA Base Brief- July 2023 Staffing and Allocations

July 2023 MIA Staffing and Allocations

Sunday, June 4, 2023

All,

There is not much change in the composition of flying from last month. We continue to see a limited amount of wide-body flying in the Domestic operation as those aircraft are mostly dedicated to the IPD markets system-wide. The system has grown 8.8% Year-Over-Year (YOY)  and that is reflected in the number of new jobs created.

We will receive 82 new hire Flight Attendants in June which brings our total for the year to 428. At indoctrination we remind them that we have the very best base and Flight Attendants in the system. If you fly with them please make them feel welcomed. They are having a very positive impact on the seniority of our Reserve list.

The projected Reserve percentages for July went down 2.4% from June. In comparison, the system average was 22.9%.  We are hopeful this downward trend continues as our sick volume continues to decrease each month, and it appears the Company is using historical data when determining the number of Reserves needed to cover the operation. Despite a pull down of business flying leading up to the weekend preceding July 4th, we can expect to see a higher volume of Reserve coverage through the holiday.

We continue to see 4-leg turns and will again address this with the Company. Last month they did agree to split a large portion of them into 2-leg turns.

IPD Flying

LHR will operate two daily flights on the 777-200 and 777-300. GRU will operate a daily flight on the 777-300 with a 38.25 hours layover, and the other will operate as a Rocket on the 777-200 with a 13.10 hour layover.  EZE, BCN, GIG, and MAD will all operate daily on the 787-8.

Non IPD Wide-Body Flying

PHL will continue to operate a daily PHL 1/1 on the 787 with a 30.23 hour layover. JFK will operate a daily 1/1 on the 777-200 with a 18.37 hour layover. SJU will operate a daily turn on the 777-200.

Narrow-Body Turns

  • SDQ, POS, SKB, LIR, STT, SXM, GND, UVF, SJO, GUA, AUA, NAS, BON, SVD, PAP, PTY, DCA, SCU, CMW, BAQ, SAT, TPA, ATL, YYZ, CVG, JAX, CHS, MDE, LAS (all-nighter), DEN (all nighter).

July Block Hours

  • MIA: 194,721
  • ATL: 1,933
  • FLL: 6,111
  • MCO: 2,468
  • PBI: 3,064
    ——————————–
    Combined Total: 208,297

10-Hour Rest Requirement (Release to Report)

The new 10-hour rest requirement ensures you will receive a minimum of ten (10) hours free of duty from release until report. This new FAR does not provide ten (10) hours of rest behind the door. Contractually we are still afforded eight (8) hours behind the door. If you are delayed due to hotel or transportation issues and have less than eight (8) hours behind the door, you must notify Crew Tracking to advise them of the delay, and have them adjust your rest accordingly.

Confirming Reserve Assignments

We continue to receive calls from Flight Attendants who have received Missed Trips (TMs) for allegedly not confirming their Reserve assignment through CCI, and even some who have reported to the airport unable to sign in because they unknowingly received a TM. There have been IT issues associated with CCI communicating with Sabre. We highly recommend using Crew Portal to confirm Reserve assignments, or verbally confirming the assignment with Crew Schedule. Do NOT use CCI to confirm a Reserve assignment.

iOS 16.5 Update and 2nd Quarter Required Training

The required iOS update is available for the iPhone EFB, version 16.5 must be updated by Thursday, June 8, 2023 in order to be FAA compliant. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install.

The second quarter (Q2) inflight web-based quarterly training (WBT) was launched last month, and the deadline to complete the training is June 21, at 2359.

Attendance Late Calls (LC)

If you call in sick less than three hours to departure or call in sick after receiving a trip while on a RAP, this will generate and additional attendance point (LC). The Attendance Managers will be contacting you to see if there are any mitigating factors that could warrant removing the LC point. If the LC is related to your FMLA and is a result of a sudden onset of your condition, make sure you advise your Attendance Manager about the sudden onset of your condition.  You are not required to discuss any details of your medical condition.

Incentive Credit (Bank Point)

Flight Attendants that work all operational assignments (sequences, airport standby assignments, Reserve Availability Periods (RAPs) and have no absences from July 1-7, will receive a banked point. The point earned will apply to any future chargeable occurrence.
