DUES DUES DUES: The ability to VOTE

We have mentioned dues and the importance of being dues current repeatedly, we will keep reminding everyone of the importance of this! We are making progress; this is a team effort!

Most people don’t even know they owe money, it could be from a random leave years ago, a paycheck where you had very few hours, a month you were out sick, who knows! It’s so easy to see if your dues are current on the APFA page.  While you are there, please verify APFA has your correct contact information. For more information, please reference this recent hotline from your APFA National Treasurer, Erik Harris.

Remember, your APFA Board of Directors passed policy implementing a payment arrangement program for members with balances over $82 (two months of dues)- take advantage of this new option to become dues current.

As of Tuesday, the 27th, Chicago has 409 members (298 active/111 on leaves) who are considered in bad standing because they owe something. Meaning someone on your next crew might be in bad standing and not even know it! Or it’s you who might owe… On your next trip, strike up a conversation about dues. This isn’t just helping people move from bad to good standing, your conversation could help ensure the people you fly with have a voice in future elections!

We are a team and in this together, it is going to take all of us having a conversation about dues to ensure we are a dues current base with the ability to VOTE.

Reserves Rescheduling of Flex and Golden Days (JCBA 12.D)

This last weekend the operation was a complete disaster. MANY were flown into days off. If you are a reserve who was flown into your day off, you have 48 hours after the conclusion of the trip to call and request the day off to be restored. The day off needs to be replaced within this bid period, and June is almost over. This is Section 12.D of the JCBA- review and be sure you get your day off back if that’s what you want!

In addition to requesting days off to be restored, be mindful that if the Reserve has no more days of availability in the bid period to be converted to Golden Days, the Reserve may not be utilized on the Flex Day unless she/he consents to such assignment in which case the pay protections specified in this Paragraph D, shall apply. (JCBA Section 12.D.3).

Section 10.J.11 of the JCBA 

Section 10.J.11 of the JCBA speaks to notification of a delay. If you are called less than three (3) hours from departure and have departed for the airport, you may choose to keep your original sign in time.

• Example 1: I am in route to the airport. I am flying ORD – LHR and am called by CS 2 hours prior to departure notifying me of an 8-hour delay. I tell the scheduler that I have left for the airport; it is less than 3 hours from departure, and I would prefer to keep my original sign in time.
• Example 2: I am flying ORD-MSP. I am called 2 hours from departure advising of a 1-hour delay. I would prefer to change my sign to reflect the delay to allow me more time to run errands before going to the airport. I tell scheduling thank you for notifying and accept the change of sign in.
