Negotiations Update #29

Management’s Proposed Concessions in Section 10: Scheduling

American Airlines Management is proposing concessions in scheduling which would significantly undermine our working conditions. We have been very clear at the bargaining table that we will not agree to concessions. These proposals are unacceptable.

The following are key elements of the company’s concessionary scheduling proposal (click on each box below to enlarge):

New Management-Proposed Provision: Transition Days

10.J.1.c- Protection Against Lineholder Removal from Awarded Sequence

10.J.3- Rescheduling After Report but Prior to Sequence Origination

10.J.1.e. iv.- Return to Crew Base- Flights Delayed Until the Following Duty Day (Formerly Known as Deferred Flights)

10.J.7- Return to Crew Base

10.J.8- More Than a Three (3) Hour Delay (After Report)

10.K.1: Illegal Through No Fault

Taken together, management’s concessionary proposals would significantly weaken, if not remove, our hard-won contractual protections. It is important to note that many of the elements are based on what the company projects to happen, including potentially running out of reserves. The current language is based on what is actually happening (i.e.) management is actually out of reserves. Enforcing the contract based on projections would be extremely difficult.
We have proposed improvements to the contract to improve scheduling flexibility, and will not concede to weakening the language. We thought it was important to highlight proposed management concessions. As we move forward with our strike authorization vote, we are focused on gaining improvements while also protecting current language.

Once you forfeit work rules, they are hard to win back. No Concessions!
