October 2023 PHL Staffing and Allocations

Monday, September 4, 2023

Hello PHL and Happy Labor Day!

Yesterday we had the monthly Staffing and Allocations call. Here is what we know…

Staffing

The LRD tool will open with approximately 360 Reserves (15.4%). The monthly line average is expected to open at 80.9 with 1,973 Lineholders. These numbers may change based on bidding behaviors. The good news is we are expecting 17 new hire Flight Attendants, and they will be online and available to fly a partial schedule in October. WELCOME to PHL!

Allocations

We gained 1,204 hours compared to September, bringing us up to 145,424 hours for October. Our PIT Satellite base lost a few hours, 39 to be exact, bringing them to a monthly total of 4,667 compared to September at 4,706.

DOHA is coming! The first flight is scheduled for October 28th. Sign-in is 1940. This sequence is a 4-day and releases on the fourth day at 1700. Total pay is 27+10. The most important to mention is it will be staffed with 10 F/A positions. (Sequence #820)

FCO, LIS, and VCE all have return DH’s at the end of the month.

ODANS

We have an increase in ODANS with new destination cities. October flying will include CLE, IND, BGR, PIT, PWM, BTV, BOS, and DTW

October 2023 Bidding Timelines

Special Notes

October 5th will be a schedule change with a smaller schedule change expected on October 29th with DST. (Daylight Savings Time). College Football should be in full swing. If you commute, plan accordingly. Flights to big college towns and hotels are expected to be full.

99.4%!

What better way to celebrate Labor Day and the strength of the American workforce, than returning a 99.4% Yes vote for strike authorization!

Observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century when Labor Activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883. By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday.

American labor has raised the nation’s standard of living and contributed to the greatest production the world has ever known and the labor movement has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pays tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation’s strength, freedom, and leadership – the American worker.

We want to thank everyone who voted and got the word out to vote!  Make no mistake, there is more work to do. Please go to apfa.org and visit the negotiations status page regularly. Negotiations updates and progress on securing the contract we deserve will be posted there.
