10.04.23 – APFA MIA Base Brief – November 2023 Staffing and Allocations

November 2023 MIA Staffing and Allocations

Wednesday, October 4, 2023

All,

As a reminder, Comply365 version 8.2 update is effective today, October 4. Please ensure Comply365 on your EFB is updated to the current version. This is an FAA requirement and flying a sequence with a non-compliant EFB may result in disciplinary action. You will need to reinstall Comply365 in the Self Service app. Once reinstalled, make sure you sync Comply365. Then go to settings within the app and ensure the version number 8.2 is displayed in green. If it’s an outdated version, the numbers will appear in red which means you have not successfully updated Comply365.

Our total head count for November is 3,532, with 3,368 active. This is and increase year-over-year of 12%. Our Reserve percentage dropped 1.5% as compared to October. We are projected at 16.1%, with 543 required Reserves.

The flight schedule on Thanksgiving Day will be reduced about 50%. There will be double layovers and increased flying the following weekend. Additionally there will be point to point NFL and college football charters that will have layovers where the game is being played. The FAU Owls and Miami Hurricanes will charter flights out of Miami for their away games. You can search for these in PBS under charters in the pairing property.

We are scheduled to receive 48 new-hires for the month of October as we are welcoming in about 10 each week. We do expect this trend to continue which is always good news for the base. Applications are now open for new-hire classes next year, and will close on Monday 09OCT.

CDG is back daily for November. MVD will operate three 787-8 weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays with a 58.15 hour layover. Sundays will have an 82.15 hour layover. EZE will add an additional 787 flight departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with a 60.55 hour layover. This is in addition to the daily 787-8 that has a 38.50 hour layover.

The GRU Rocket is back for November and will operate daily service on the 777-200 with a 13.15 hour layover. The 777-300 will continue to operate daily with a 38.25 hour layover.

The only daily wide-body 2-day trip that operates daily is on the 787-8 with a 22 hour layover in DFW that has a PHX turn tagged on to it. I asked allocations to split off the PHX portion.

Late Sign-ins

We continue to receive calls each month from Flight Attendants who either forgot to sign-in, or the tablet did not record the sign-in. You should always double check the NS to make sure you have an asterisk next to your name. If you do receive an LR and were at the airport prior to sign-in, you can pull up your KCM scan history by creating an account from the website on the back of your KCM card. Once you have successfully created the account, you will be able to access the previous 60 days of your scans. Keep in mind the times are posted in Zulu time which is four hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. You can then provide a copy to your Attendance Manager that will prove you were at the airport prior to sign-in.

ODANs

  • Consist of and are paid as a single, stand-alone duty period
  • May be scheduled up to fourteen (14) hours of duty
  • In actual operations, an ODAN duty day may be 15 hours
  • No more than 2 flight segments
  • Each segment will be scheduled no more than 2:30 block time
  • Scheduled breaks between the two segments will be no less than 5:15 and no more than 9:29 block to block pure rest for domestic; and no more than 10:59 block to block pure rest for NIPD  (actual operations may reduce scheduled breaks)
  • An airport hotel will be used if one exists

Below is the contractual ODAN language:

Δ (L-31)
  5. A Flight Attendant on an ODAN sequence may be rescheduled to fly or deadhead on one (1) additional segment either prior to or following the break as described in Paragraph K.4.
