3.05.24 – APFA Pickets Wall St. During Company’s 2024 Investor Day

APFA Pickets Wall St. During Company’s 2024 Investor Day

Tuesday, March 5, 2024

Yesterday, Flight Attendants picketed on Wall Street, protesting the Company’s 2024 Investor Day. American Airlines, led by CEO Robert Isom, shamelessly peddled a narrative of prosperity while continuing its assault on its largest unionized workforce.

American Airlines paraded their so-called commitment to “Caring for People on Life’s Journey®,” all while disregarding the very Flight Attendants who stand on the front lines of their operation.

Instead of caring for their frontline employees, management ignored its people and wowed investors with extravagant aircraft orders.

Above Left: Cole Brown, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer, talks about the importance of empowering and holding team members accountable. Cole, in charge of “People,” had nothing to say about the fact that Flight Attendants under her care cannot afford a basic standard of living in cities like New York City, Boston, and Miami.

Above Right: CEO Robert Isom talks of value creation within our company. Isom is content with 27,000 Flight Attendants working under 2014 wages, even after upper-level management rewarded themselves with an incentive program for returning to profitability after COVID, as if they did it alone.

Above: Flight Attendants protest on Wall Street, continuing to keep our fight at the forefront of the public and media.

Our negotiations, governed by the Railway Labor Act, are restrictive for airline and railroad workers. We will keep our fight in the spotlight with the media and the traveling public. Every contract negotiation with American and its predecessors has been a battle, and even though this management pretends to foster a “culture of appreciation,” this time is no different. APFA and Sibling unions are united in rejecting airline CEOs’ current economic framework. Their offers devalue our profession and fail to address the current economic realities.

What’s Next?

On March 13th, our negotiating committee will meet with the National Mediation Board (NMB), addressing our impasse with management and a release into a 30-day cooling-off period. We will continue to escalate our fight to the highest levels, including the White House.

Please stay engaged to keep up with the process as we move towards a strike. Stay tuned for more information next week from Washington, D.C.
