4.03.24 – APFA MIA Base Brief – May 2024 Staffing and Allocations

May 2024 MIA Staffing and Allocations

Wednesday, April 3, 2024

All,

The Contractual Month of May is May 2nd – June 1st.

The active headcount for May is 3628. This is up slightly from April and an increase of 239 jobs year-over-year. We are projected to have 600 Reserves for May, which represents 17.3% of the base. The line average will be 82.5 hours. Our Reserve numbers are the same as in April but 2% lower than in May 2023.

We have 96 new hires reporting to base in April and May. The first class reports Monday, April 15th, and each additional class will report each Monday for the rest of April and May. This is very good news as this will have a positive impact on those currently serving Reserve. We know you will make them feel welcome.

The LRD tool does not reflect 96 new hires who will be on Reserve for May. The LRD tool indicates 504 Reserves. The actual number of required Reserves is 600, so if you are on Reserve and senior on the list, back up your PBS bids with Lineholder bid preferences.

EZE will operate only on May 3rd and May 5th. EZE is scheduled to return daily on June 5th. GIG will return to a 777-200 on May 6th. GRU will operate two daily flights with a Rocket on the 787-8, and a 33-hour layover on the 777-300. LHR will continue to operate two daily flights split between the 777-300 and the 777-200. BCN will operate daily on the 787-8, and MAD moves to the 777-200.

Our wide-body NIPD and Domestic flying continues to be significantly reduced due to the aircraft moving into the long-haul international markets at other bases. We will be limited to a daily 777-300 to LAX with a 33-hour layover, two DFW turnarounds (starting on the 9th) daily on split 787/777 sequences, and a PHL turnaround (starting on the 6th) on the 787-8. There will be no wide-body flying on NIPD. We continue to ask Allocations to push wide-body additional flying into our base, given the reduction in IPD flying.

Direct Connect

Just to keep things interesting, Direct Connect has been removed from the Inflight website. It remains located under the link tab in the Crew Portal.

UBL Red Flag

A word of caution when bidding Red Flag sequences. If you placed a bid for a Red Flag sequence and missed the UBL run, call Crew Schedule, and ask them to rerun it. If the sequence has been assigned to a reserve, the Red Flag premium is removed. If the reserve goes illegal or calls in sick, the sequence is run on the next UBL round without the Red Flag premium. If you still have your ballot in for that sequence, it will be awarded without the Red Flag premium. To avoid this, place a generic bid for the same parameters and check the box that indicates “Red Flag Only.”

More Than a Three (3) Hour Delay (After Report)

Section 10.J.8.— “When a flight departure is delayed for more than three (3) hours, the Flight Attendant who is scheduled for such flight shall not be required to stand by and shall be relieved of duty at her/his request, provided that other Flight Attendants are available to replace her/him without increasing the delay. A Flight Attendant desiring to be released shall remain on duty until the relief Flight Attendant reports for duty. A Flight Attendant exercising this option shall forfeit any pay and credit that may be accumulated under any other Paragraph in Section 10.”

You are not entitled to Call Out pay or pay protection, but you will receive the Duty Rig from report to release. Section 11.D.5. states, “A Flight Attendant shall receive a minimum of one (1) hour of pay and credit for every two (2) hours of actual on-duty time prorated on a minute-by-minute basis of actual on-duty time.”

Example:  You are delayed for more than three hours and choose to be removed from your sequence. You reported at 1000 and are relieved and released at 1400. Your four hours on duty would generate two hours of pay. You must file a Direct Connect to receive the time.
