Against higher month-over-month (June vs. May) Reserve percentages systemwide due to increased system block hours, LAX’s reserve percentage for June is in the bottom 4 systemwide.

What is driving LAX reserve seniority is, of course, the company’s refusal to return our displaced flight attendants, followed by the processing of vacancy transfers into LAX.

In connection with the current situation, I requested that the company consider returning our displaced Flight Attendants as a result of the IPD reductions announced for other bases. I pointed out that the incremental loss of IPD flying at the other IPD bases justifies the return of our displaced Flight Attendants.

June 2024 Allocations

  • LAX Total Block Hours: 101,425
  • Widebody Percentage: 47%
  • IPD/NIPD Widebody Hours: 41,445
  • Domestic Widebody Hours: 6,181
  • IPD/NIPD Narrowbody Hours: 11,426
  • Domestic Narrowbody Hours: 42,373

Satellite and Co-Terminal Block Hours

  • ONT: 4,248
  • SNA: 5,956
  • LAS: 1,564
  • SAN: 1,626

Month-Over-Month Comparison (May 2024 vs June 2024)

  • 1-day decreased from 26% to 22%
  • 2-days increased  from 31% to 37%
  • 3-days remained constant at 34%
  • 4-days decreased from 10% to 7%

Based on feedback, 4-days remain largely unpopular, and we will continue to argue for a reduction, with the time being shifted to turns and productive 2-days or 3-days.

Please email your concerns and feedback to LAX Base Manager Andrew Masiello at [email protected].

Your local LAX Allocations Group also provides their feedback on a monthly basis once the preliminary allocations are published. They are, with their primary areas of focus, Michele Genovese (LAX), Wilson Ngai (ONT and IPD/NIPD), Dottie Long (transcons), Pam Askew (SNA), Ellen Eherts (LAS) and Keri Sartell (SAN).

IPD Reductions at Other Bases

As mentioned earlier, the reductions in IPD flying at other bases, in my opinion, justifies the return of our displaced flight attendants to LAX.

I have made a formal request to management, and am awaiting a decision.

Negotiations

Throughout our history as a work group, contract negotiations often became a war of attrition with management hoping that we just give up and accept mediocrity, or less.

  • They want to wear us down.
  • They want us to doubt ourselves.
  • They want us to turn on each other.
  • And, most importantly, they want us to accept less so that they can have more for themselves.

We often find ourselves asking, “How long can this go on?” AA already knows what it will take to reach an agreement which meets our needs now, and into the future.

And, yes, even as we find ourselves mired in the inequity of a governmental process which favors management, NOTHING is stopping AA from giving us what we deserve NOW.
