8.04.24 – APFA MIA Base Brief – September 2024 Staffing and Allocations

September 2024 Staffing and Allocations

Sunday, August 4, 2024

All,

Bid Sheet and Staffing

The Contractual Month of September is August 31st – September 30th. September schedule change is September 4th.

PBS Preliminary Manning Plan – September 2024

The available headcount for September is 3520. This is an increase of 227 heads year-over-year, but down 7 from August. The line average will be 77.9 hours at PBS opening.

Reserve Projections:

We are projected to have 671 Reserves for September, which represents 19.7% of the base. Our Reserve numbers are 3.0% lower than August, and 1.2% lower than September 2023.

The reserve seniority for August at the start of PBS was 13MAY19. September reserve seniority begins at 28APR22.

Flying Summary:

EZE will not operate after September 2nd. It will return October 7th and a third trip will begin the last week of October. GIG will operate daily on the 777-200. GRU will operate two daily flights with a Rocket on the 787-8, and a 38-hour layover on the 777-300. LHR will operate two daily flights, 56/57 on the 777-300. LHR 38/39 has some sequences split between 777/300 and 777/200. BCN will operate daily on the 787-8, and MAD operates on the 777-200.

For domestic, the LAX wide body flying will end on September 3rd. There is a PHL turn on the 787 with a 3.22 hour sit time for much of the month. There will be no NIPD wide-body flying.

We continue to ask Allocations to push more widebody flying into our base but the loss of widebodies in the domestic operation systemwide is problematic. The Company has previously announced that they are taking widebodies out of the domestic operation almost entirely. Our domestic widebody hours are consistent with the system.

Voluntary Leaves of Absence (VLOA)

The Company is offering full-month unpaid VLOAs for the month of September. These unpaid leaves have not been offered for some time, so we want to give you some details.

MIA is planning to award 114 unpaid VLOAs.

Bidding for September VLOAs closes August 7 at 1300 (ET). Check your HI-10 after 1800 (ET) on August 7. The bidding ballot is in:

Comply365 > My Forms > AAFA > FA Voluntary Leave of Absence (VLOA)

Status Information

  • Lineholder:  If your status indicates you are a Lineholder then you will be considered a Lineholder when they process VLOAs regardless of your toggle onto Reserve. If awarded as a Lineholder, you will be set as Inactive in the LRD tool, a toggle to RSV will not be considered, and you will not receive credit for Reserve.
  • Reserve:  If your status indicates you are a Reserve then you will be a Reserve in processing.
  • Tentative:  If you are designated Tentative, the default in LRD is Lineholder so you will be processed as a Lineholder.

Eligibility for VLOA

VLOAs are awarded with your seniority, at our base:  Lineholders are awarded until all available leaves are awarded or there are no more requests. If there are still more leaves after Lineholders, then Reserves are awarded.

VLOAs not awarded:  If you are on an absence ending on or after August 31st or have expired qualifications you will not be awarded, including Flight Attendants in their grace month with no training scheduled.

Benefits, Seniority, and Travel

Seniority:  On a one-month VLOA you will continue to accrue all seniorities; company, pay, and bidding.

Benefits:  On VLOA you will accrue vacation and sick time. You will continue to pay your normal contribution rates for Medical/Vision/Dental/Life insurances, but since you will not receive a paycheck, you will be billed.

Travel:  Your travel privileges will remain the same as if you are active. This includes D1 and other airlines (OAL).

Reserve Credit:  If you are awarded a VLOA as a reserve you will get credit. Probationary flight attendants awarded a VLOA will have the probationary period extended by the number of days of the leave.

General

If you have a carry-over trip from August into September, you are responsible for that trip. You may fly it or drop it. If you are awarded a VLOA and subsequently drop a carry-over trip, you should notify the Base Planner via the FA Support Tab on Crew Portal so they can adjust the start of your leave.

Any scheduled vacation in September will be paid as though you are active.

Unaccompanied Minors (UMs)

There has been a recent increase in UMs getting off the airplane unescorted. They are leaving on their own, but the Company is holding the crews accountable.

We have heard a couple of tips from flight attendants that may be helpful in keeping these kids from leaving without you. If the UM has a passport, you can keep it so they must collect it before leaving. You can also put their carry-on luggage in the forward part of the airplane so you will see them trying to find or grab it. They will likely not leave without their passport or baggage.

Tentative Agreement

We are certain that everyone is aware that a Tentative Agreement has been reached. APFA.org has the highlights, the full text with changes, and retro/boarding pay/trip comparison calculators.

The Executive Summary Booklet has been mailed to your address on file with APFA.

Quarterly Training – 3Q WBT

This training has just opened and is due September 1 @ 2359 (CT). The Company states the reason for the short deadline is due to the FAA. It includes the extra ditching module.

Current Phone Number and Address

APFA does not receive telephone and address change information from the Company.

You may update your information and subscribe to Base Briefs and Hotlines at APFA.org in the My Account section. There you can also check your dues status as you may only vote if you are dues current.

Professional Standards

Profession Standards Representative Gina Blakley may be reached on 917-749-5032 for August.

Please use Professional Standards for issues you are unable to resolve on the airplane. Keep it out of the office.
